Regarding Chicago, the link I had for you here doesn't work. Go to Google.com Maps, put in the VIC Theatre, Chicago, IL. 3145 North Sheffield Avenue, Chicago, IL‎ Search Nearby: hotels. You'll see what comes up for you.

We stayed at the Days Inn when we saw them at the VIC in 2008. Nice quiet place, clean, but further away from the others. You can't get too far away from the VIC because it goes from cool area to "not so good" quickly.

Check out www.hotels.com and search what's closest to the VIC's address. We got the Days Inn really cheap ($100 a night) and they sell out quickly. The UK people invaded!! *lol*

By city standards you have to get far from the Vic to be in a sketchy neighborhood (not that crime doesn't happen everywhere; it is a city) and they don't tend to have respectable hotels in them.

I don't know anyone who has stayed there, but City Suites is right around the corner and seems to have decent reviews on trip advisor.

A little further away is the Days Inn (formerly Rock And Roll Days Inn) on Diversy. It's in the heart of Lincoln Park and only about a mile away. Lots of people stay here, mainly because it tends to have low rates. This is the place Becky mentioned.

Also, don't feel compelled to stay right near there. The Vic is just off the brown and red el lines, so staying at a hotel anywhere near those lines would be extremely convenient. As the show is on a weekend, you may find great hotel deals in the North Michigan Ave. (tourist) area, which has a ton of hotels.

Chicago is confusing for people who aren't from there or aren't familiar with the layout. I was trying to be as specific and simple as possible to find them close hotels that are conveniently located near the VIC.

I wish this was wrong. :-)

I live in the Detroit area, so I don't have any specific hotel recommendations as I've never stayed in a local hotel. However, I can recommend staying somewhere in Royal Oak itself, or northwards (Troy, Birmingham, etc.). You may pay a little more to stay in these areas, but they are relatively safe/clean and have plenty to offer in the way of shopping, food, etc.

Good luck.

Thanks for the feed back. I have booked a room at The Days Inn in Chicago. Which should suit our needs for a clean no frills room for the night. As we have to leave for the drive home early Sunday. So no time to sightsee or hang out at the hotel. Next is the tricky one, a place to stay in Detroit that does not charge by the hour LOL!

Good choice with the Days Inn for Chicago. We stayed at the Hampton Inn right off 75 when we drove through Detroit Once. Typical hotel. No frills, but we chose it since it was right there when we wanted a break. I Google Mapped it from the venue and it's 3 miles away. Wasn't sure if you wanted walking distance in that area or not, since I'm not too familiar with the venue's location.

Thanks for the info.
Been doing a bit of research on Google and came across the Hampton Inn. Got decent reviews on Travel Advisor and offer very good AAA/CAA rates. Pretty sure we are going to go with this one.

Has anyone received their tickets for the shows yet? We have both VIP and GA tickets ordered and we have not received any of them while we have received our GA tickets for Seattle.
